Continuing Education

TdLab (Dr. BinBin Pearce, Prof. Michael Stauffacher) and the group Weather and Climate Risks (Prof. David Bresch) offered in 2020 a Certificate of Advanced Studies, called “Collaborative decision making under uncertainty”. The program built up the capacity for effective complex decision making, especially in fields related to sustainability and climate risks. Rather than being lecture-based, participants got to experience work collaboratively on a real-world problem in a new setting, with an emphasis on building a network of peers from diverse expert knowledges who all wrestle with uncertainty in decision making. Supported by an innovative curriculum design developed at D-USYS, known as “integrated systems and design thinking”, the goal was for participants to learn to understand how to interweave perspectives from academia and practice, in order to arrive at innovative ways of uncovering insights and reframing problems.

With the departure of Dr. BinBin Pearce to TU Delft, this CAS was discontinued. Some of its major learnings were, however, taken up by the new CAS ETH in Climate Innovation.
