The examined location of Zug constitutes a close combine of rural areas with urban agglomeration. The region of Zug is industrialized above Swiss average and shows high economic growth, an above-average increase of jobs in the service industries as well as super-regional economic and freight-transport relations. In the region of Zug the railway’s percentage of freight traffic is decreasing and below Swiss average. The case study 2000 views the region of Zug as a model case for a possible development in Switzerland.
