A regio-scientific analysis of the traditional textile, timber as well as dairy-farming industries is being represented considering the Canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden as example. Applying the method of the transdisciplinary ETH-NSSI case studies, it is being examplarly shown what chances a region exhibits that lies at an interface between the growing agglomeration and the peripheral, rural area.
