«Flüsse, Zeit und gemeinschaftliche Forschung – Eine Diskussion, in der die Rolle der Flüsse bei der Darstellung gegenwärtiger und historischer Klimabedingungen und bei der Vorhersage des zukünftigen Klimas untersucht wird.»
Flüsse sind Ikonen des Klimawandels. Sie sind auch hochsensible Indikatoren für die gegenwärtigen Klimabedingungen, Aufzeichnungsgeräte für das historische Klima und Prädiktoren für das Klima in der Zukunft. Klimawissenschaftler erforschen all diese Faktoren durch die Beobachtung von Wassereinzugsgebieten und den Ökosystemen, die sie erhalten.

Die Webinare werden auf Zoom veranstaltet und haben die Form von kurzen Präsentationen der Diskussionsteilnehmer, gefolgt von einer interaktiven Frage-und-Antwort-Sitzung mit dem Zoom-Publikum.

Wir laden Sie herzlich zum Seminar «Disentangling inter- and trans-disciplinary research: factors, understandings and processes in collaborative research» ein. Unsere Keynote-Speakerin ist Prof. Dr. Julie Thompson Klein (Wayne State University (USA) und Transdisciplinarity Lab).
Julie ist emeritierte Professorin für Geisteswissenschaften an der Abteilung für Englisch an der Wayne State University und internationale Forschungspartnerin für Wissenschaft und Technologie des TdLab an der ETH Zürich. Sie ist auch Mitglied des Expertengremiums im Projekt externe Seite«SHAPE-ID: Shaping Interdisciplinary Practices in Europe», an dem auch das TdLAB beteiligt ist.

Late Lessons from Early Warnings: Science, Precaution, Innovation
A discussion about the precautionary principle in environmental sciences and policy, organized by D-USYS and USYS TdLab.

In 2001, the European Environment Agency, EEA, released the first report on "Late Lessons from Early Warnings". The report addressed the history of the precautionary principle through a range of case studies from asbestos to madcow disease and pointed out that often action was taken only long after the first indications of a problem, which then caused serious human health impacts and high costs. Since 2001, with the development of new technologies and the potential for new impacts on human and environmental health, the precautionary principle has become even more important. In 2013, the second report on "externe SeiteLate Lessons from Early Warnings" was released by the EuropeanEnvironment Agency. It covers new case studies including radiation from mobile phones or nanomaterials, and it addresses also the question of “false positives” – warnings that turned out to be false alarms – in more detail than the first report. September 26, 2013 – USYS TdLab Opening Apéro at SOL
On September 26, the USYS TdLab celebrated its official opening. More than 50 people attended, among them reprsentatives from all institutes of the Department of Environmental Systems Science (IED, IAC, IBP, IAS, ITES, IBZ), as well from other ETH departments (ARCH, SED, BAUG, HEST), different ETH based centres (WFS, ETH Sust, ESC, CCES) and ETH domains such as WSL. All in all a good example of the kind of network activities envisaged by the USYS TdLab. In his welcoming speech Peter Edwards (former Dean of D-USYS, now head of FCL Singpore) stressed the importance of the USYS TdLab in making D-USYS and the ETH a place for going beyond analyses of fundamental environmental problems towards closing the gaps to achieving solutions.
